IPTV how to use: what you need first.

Before you follow this IPTV setup guide, it helps to know how to use IPTV. Setting it up is simpler than most people expect. You need three things: a device that can run an IPTV app, an internet connection, and your login details. If you do not have a login yet, start with the 24-hour IPTV free trial and we send everything on WhatsApp within minutes.

Your login comes in one of three formats. Most apps use Xtream Codes: a server address, a username and a password. Some apps use an M3U playlist, which is a single link containing your channels. MAG and Formuler boxes use a portal URL linked to the box's MAC address. We send the right format for your device, so you do not need to choose.

For the steadiest picture, connect your TV device with an Ethernet cable or a strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal. We suggest about 25 Mbps for 4K, 10 Mbps for Full HD and 5 Mbps for HD.

IPTV Xtream, M3U & portals

Xtream Codes vs M3U playlist vs MAG portal.

Every device in this IPTV setup guide uses one of these formats. Not sure what your login details mean? Here is how the three IPTV formats compare, and which devices use each one.

IPTV Xtream Codes

Server, username and password. Loads channels, the EPG, catch-up and the films library automatically. Used by IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate, GSE Smart IPTV, XCIPTV and MyTVOnline.

IPTV M3U playlist

A single link with your full channel list. Used as an IPTV player M3U playlist in VLC, Kodi, MyIPTV Player and many smart TV apps. Add the separate EPG link for a TV guide.

MAG portal

A portal web address linked to your box's MAC address. Used by MAG boxes and Formuler devices, and by STBEmu on Android.

EPG setup

How to set up the IPTV TV guide (EPG).

Every device section of this IPTV setup guide ends with a working TV guide. With an Xtream Codes login, the EPG loads automatically. Give it a minute or two after you sign in, then open the TV guide. With an M3U playlist, add the EPG (XMLTV) link we send you in your app's EPG settings.

If the guide looks out of date, use Update EPG or Refresh EPG in your app's settings, and check that your device's time zone is set to Dublin or London so programme times line up.

  • Xtream login: EPG loads automatically
  • M3U: add the EPG (XMLTV) link
  • Refresh EPG in app settings
  • Set time zone to Dublin
  • Catch-up shows inside the guide
  • Favourites appear first in the grid

Use a cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, restart your device and router, close other apps, and switch from 4K to FHD on slower connections.

IPTV not loading or login failed

Check the server, username and password for typing mistakes, capital letters and spaces, then restart the app.

EPG empty or wrong

Refresh the EPG in settings, add the EPG link for M3U, and set your time zone to Dublin.

Black screen on a channel

Switch to another channel and back, change the player to the alternative decoder in app settings, or restart the app.

Setup FAQ

IPTV setup guide questions.

Contact & FAQ

How long does IPTV setup take?

Following this IPTV setup guide takes about 5 minutes on most devices. Firestick and Android TV are the quickest. Smart TVs that use a MAC address take a few minutes longer, because we add the playlist for you.

What is the difference between Xtream Codes, M3U and a MAG portal?

Xtream Codes is a login with a server, username and password, and it loads channels, the EPG and films automatically. An M3U playlist is a single link with the channel list, used by apps such as VLC, Kodi and MyIPTV Player. A MAG portal is a web address that MAG and Formuler boxes connect to, linked to the box's MAC address.

Which IPTV app should I use?

TiviMate on Android TV and Firestick for live TV, IPTV Smarters Pro for live TV plus films on most devices, GSE Smart IPTV on Apple devices, and IBO Player or SmartOne IPTV on Samsung and LG TVs. See the best IPTV apps guide.

Why is my TV guide (EPG) empty?

Give the EPG a minute or two to load after you sign in. If it stays empty, refresh the EPG in your app's settings. With an M3U playlist, make sure you also added the EPG link. If it still does not load, message us on WhatsApp.

Why does my IPTV keep buffering?

Our servers use Anti-Freeze technology, so buffering at home usually comes from Wi-Fi. Move the router closer, use a cable or a 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, restart your device and router, and close other apps. Lower the quality from 4K to FHD on slower connections.

My IPTV is not loading or says login failed. What should I do?

Check the server, username and password for typing mistakes, especially capital letters and spaces. Make sure your trial or plan is still active, then restart the app. If the problem stays, send us a photo of the screen on WhatsApp.

Why is IPTV not working on my Wi-Fi but works on mobile data?

This usually means your home connection or internet provider is blocking or slowing streams. Restart your router first. If your internet provider blocks streaming, the built-in VPN may sometimes not work, and that block is outside our control.

How do I connect IPTV to the internet?

Here is how to connect IPTV to the internet: your device just needs a normal internet connection: Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable from your router. For 4K we suggest about 25 Mbps; Full HD needs about 10 Mbps.

Can I install IPTV on more than one device?

Yes. Install the app on as many devices as you like with the same login. Each connection plays on one screen at a time, so choose a 2-device or 3-device plan to watch on several screens together.

Can you set it up for me?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp with your device, and a real person guides you step by step, 24/7. Many customers simply send a photo of their TV screen.

Do I need a VPN for IPTV?

Every plan already includes a built-in VPN, so you do not need to install a separate one.

Does IPTV work on Roku?

Yes. Roku is supported on our servers. Install an IPTV player such as IBO Player from the Roku Channel Store, send us the MAC address and device key, and we load your playlist. Follow the Roku steps in this IPTV setup guide.

We will set it up with you.

Message us on WhatsApp with your device and a real person guides you, 24/7. Back to the IPTV Ireland home page.
